Live music background versus audio tapes

I play keyboard. After practicing and during a church service the singer switched keys on me and naturally I was at a loss as to where she was. I think the problem was that she was listening for the music and I was listening for her leading the songs. I have sung for many years to both tapes and live music. Is it true that there is a difference in how a singer should sing in these two situations? |
